No one taught her the colours. She simply knew them.

Red first — always red, the most urgent one. Then orange and yellow tumbling after. Then the long, calm green. Then blue, which she said tasted like rain. Then purple, which she kept for last because it was her favourite and she had already learned, at four years old, to save the best for last.
