Welcome to Victorian Velvet
Some things are not made. They are summoned.
✨ Meet the Maker ✨
I grew up surrounded by the quiet magic of handcraft.
My mother knitted everything — sweaters, dresses, scarves, hats. In Poland of the 1980s and 90s, when shop shelves were sparse and prices were steep for working families, her needles were never still. She created beauty from almost nothing. I still remember her laughing, telling me how when she had no knitting needles, she used ballpoint pen refills instead. Where there's a will, there's a way.
In almost every childhood photograph of me, I'm wearing something she made. Delicate dresses, stitched with love and precision. My grandmother was the same — a master of crochet, every row as perfect as if made by machine. My mother says the same about my work now. I suppose some gifts are passed down through the hands.
But the moment that changed everything came years later, on a summer evening in Bolków, Poland.
I was at a three-day Gothic festival held in the ruins of a medieval castle. The mountain town had transformed — filled with Victorian gowns, corsets, medieval silhouettes, and dark romance. And then I saw her. A woman dressed head to toe in a crocheted gown. Flowing sleeves, floral motifs, intricate patterns expanding like dark blooms. I couldn't look away.
I want to make something like that.
The thought never left me. The moment I returned home, I picked up a crochet hook for the first time — and I never put it down.
That is how Victorian Velvet was born. From a childhood of watching hands create, and one unforgettable woman in a castle ruin who showed me what crochet could truly become. Every piece I make carries that moment with it.

Gothic style is not a phase. It is a language. And every piece I create is a sentence in that language — precise, intentional, and entirely your own.
